Choosing your Bridesmaid Dresses - Glasgow Bridal Tips
You Come First
Get your priorities right. Have you chosen your dream wedding dress yet from one of the many popular Glasgow bridal shops? That's really important because you can't even consider what your bridesmaid dresses are going to look like until you know the style, length, sleeve design and even colour of your own dress. And then when you have chosen your dress, where do you start with choosing the bridesmaid dresses?
Consider Your Bridal Party
There are a few things to consider. It's not as simple as choosing a colour. Remember you are not the one that is wearing the dresses. You need to take into consideration the ladies you have chosen to be your bridesmaids. They may all have very different body shapes and hair colour, so not all styles will suit all bridesmaids. Nor will all colours.
Make A Shortlist
Shortlist some styles and colours that you agree will suit all parties. In the same way that you did for your dress, consider the season too. You might be alright in your wrap arriving in the snow but it's a little unfair to have your bridesmaids freezing to death in their strappy knee length numbers! Most importantly the style and colour of the bridesmaid dresses need to co-ordinate with your dress. So try to match the neckline, sleeves, skirt style.
Don't Upset the Groom
Did you already have a colour scheme in mind for your wedding? Will you want matching flowers or a contrasting colour. If you are planning on a colour like pink for your bridesmaids dresses and you had planned for the groom and ushers to have co-ordinated ties, waistcoats and cummerbunds, have you asked whether your husband-to-be is happy to wear pink? It's his day too remember!
Go Shopping!
So taking all body shapes into consideration and making sure there are no clashes with hair colour (and male pride!), take your bridesmaids and your shortlist out shopping around some of the best Glasgow bridal shops. Take some of your pictures with you from magazines and definitely a photo of your own dress so that the bridal specialists can give you the best advice on finding the best dresses for your bridesmaids to complement your own. Finally, make sure all your bridesmaids feel comfortable with your chosen colour and style. Although it's you that will be the centre of attention, your bridesmaids will stand out too and the last thing you want is any of your bridesmaids hiding in the toilet for most of the day because they feel too self conscious to make an appearance.
Budget for Alterations
If you are using one of the popular Glasgow bridal shops, you should be offered an alteration service included. But bear in mind that if you are on a budget and are considering buying your dresses off the peg from a high street retail store like BHS or Debenhams, you will need to pay for any alterations yourself.

Trying to get bridal party attire together?
My girls are wearing black skirts with black short sleeve sweaters. I saw a wedding on The Knot where the BM's wore the same thing and I thought it was a nice elegant inexpensive look the girls could sport.
What about the men? Men's Warehouse quoted us $140 for my FH's tux. That seems like a a lot to ask his friends to spend. My friends were able to find skirts and sweaters for less than $50. I was thinking the guys could purchase black dress pants, white dress shirt, black tie, and a black sport coat. Looking at prices for these things online it still seems like a lot. Would it be alright for groomsmen to wear this and the groom wear a tuxedo?
Anyone have any other ideas for groomsmen attire? I don't think them going without sports coats would look good.
I imagine most adult men already own a black suit and a white dress shirt, or could borrow one from somebody, so a black suit (pants and jacket) would basically be a freebie and they wouldn't have to buy one unless they wanted to. The only thing they might need to get would be the tie.
I think it's fine if the groom doesn't match. But he could certainly wear a black suit too. Maybe the groomsmen could wear black long ties, and the groom could wear a black bowtie?
I like the idea of doing separates instead of dresses on the bridesmaids - clever choice!
